Commission A Drawing

I am an artist with a heart full of love for animals and a passion for capturing their unique spirit, turning my love for art and animals into something meaningful.
Each pencil stroke is a tribute to the bond between humans and animals, which is something I have always cherished.

Working with the finest materials available, bringing out the personality and soul of every animal I draw.

Using meticulous layering techniques to build authenticity and depth, giving your pet a 3D composition, improving detail and colour from your photo, and
highlighting your pet's unique character.

Framing and space considerations

When choosing a size, consider how the portait will interact with its surroundings. Mounting and framing will add to the final dimensions, so ensure there is adequate wall space to make the finished piece look balanced in the room.
The option to have 'negative space' added to the picture is crucial for making the subject stand out, create mood, adding drama and give the eyes a resting place.

This
also helps draw the viewer's attention directly to the portrait.
Also an 'invisible line' where areas of similar value, such as white meeting white or dark meeting dark, seem to merge also known as a lost line, leaving the viewer's visual intelligence to fill in the gaps to complete the image. Using the lost edges creates a sense of softness.
Both examples are in the drawing of the horse above.
If you would like this sort of composition in your portrait please ask me when booking your slot and I can see
what options we have to achieve this.
Once you are happy with the composition I will bring your pet to life with conscientious attention to detail.

Prices include all work in progress, photos and updates of your commission. If however, you prefer
not to have updates of work and prefer a surprise at the end of the process, please let me know when making your booking.

As I begin work on your commission, I will share updates and progress photos of the portrait so you can watch it develop stroke by stroke and see the amount of work involved. A drawing typically takes 20 to 50 hours to complete. (Example above).
Once your pet portrait is completed you will receive a photo of the final piece for your approval. Your pet portrait is emboss stamped and signed by me.
At this stage, the final 50% payment is due. Once I have received this, I will ship it to you via recorded delivery with full insurance.
The portrait will be delivered beautifully gift-wrapped, for you to enjoy for years to come.

Framing

I have a wide selection of professionally crafted frames for your pet portrait, should you wish to include it.
I show a small selection of frames on the website here below. If you would like something different, please do not hesitate to contact me so we can discuss your requirements.
They are beautifully handmade to order and take 10 days to 2 working weeks to arrive so please factor this in, as this will make lead times a little longer.

A frame completes the portrait, making it ready to be hung straight away, and protects the drawing, but if you wish to frame it yourself, please use a professional framer as soon as you can to protect the artwork from smudging and spoiling.
The drawing will arrive already mounted in an off-white colour, as I think it creates an aesthetically pleasing space between the frame and the portrait. If you would like a different coloured mount just let me know when placing your commission.

How it Works

If my commission books are open, you are welcome to join the waiting list any time. I can provide an estimate on completion time upon enquiry.
If you have a special request, birthday, anniversary, etc., I will try my very best to accommodate this.

If my commission book is closed, it means I am catching up on my workload. Please keep an eye on my social media (Instagram), and I will let everyone know when I reopen my books.

If you would like to proceed with a pet portrait, please email me your requirements, and I can discuss this further with you. If you are happy with the plan of action and wait time, I will then ask you to pay a 50% deposit to secure your slot.

The photos you have: (the more photos the better), as this will help me see the character of your pet. If you would like a portrait of multiple pets or one pet in a different position just send all the photos you have and I can merge them together to make a balanced composition.
All photos can be sent to me by:

Picking The Perfect Photo

Natural light is best, soft natural light; avoid harsh sunlight or flash, which can create shadows or red eye.
Get on their level, crouch down to your pet's eye level. This creates a more intimate and engaging perspective.
Focus on the eyes, as the eyes are the soul of the portrait. Make sure the focus is sharp, the lighting is well-lit, and the expression is full.
Capture their personality, try capturing something that's personal to you and your pet, a regal pose, a special toy, sleeping and snuggling, a photo that feels so true to them.
Treats or toys can be used to help them focus on the camera, get their attention, and capture that alert or curious look.
A simple background helps your pet stand out.
Take lots of photos, as pets move fast.
The clearer the photo the more detail I can capture in the portrait, just make sure the photo is not blurred or pixelated.

Gift Wrapped
&
Certificate of Authenticity
